The Balloons over Waikato is New Zealand’s premier hot air balloon festival. Held annually in Hamilton over a 5-day period, this event sparks a great time to be in Hamilton. Stadium Motel of Hamilton is the place to be for anyone travelling from out of town for the festival.

The Balloons over Waikato runs from March 22-26. The balloons take off every morning from Innes Common around 7am and the days are filled with activities for families to enjoy. Stadium Motel owner Brian Stokes says the festival is one of his highlights of the year.

“Watching the balloons take off in the morning is something that everyone should experience. Parents can take their kids and have a fun time. The festival has something for everyone.”

The big event of the festival is the Zuru Nightglow on Saturday March 25. The Nightglow is dubbed as Hamilton’s biggest night out, and sees the University of Waikato fields covered in balloons and entertainment including live music and the best fireworks display in the city.

“The entire 5 days has so many different experiences to enjoy. The balloons also visit a number of different towns meaning surrounding areas get a glimpse of what is to offer. Being at Stadium Motel during this period is the perfect way to compliment the festival” says Brian.

There will be a number of special shape balloons at the festival which will attract and hold audiences captivated. The 5-day experience is one which Hamilton gears up for every year, with 2017 being no different.

Stadium Motel offers those who attend the festival the most comforting and serene accommodation to recline into after a day of activities. For any travelers heading into Hamilton for the festival, the friendly and attentive staff will provide everything anyone could need during a stay.

Hamilton has a number of events coming up in March to suit any needs along with the Balloons over Waikato. A day in the domain in Te Aroha on March 5, the Chiefs playing the Blues and Hurricanes on March 3 and 10, Turangawaewae Regatta in Ngaruawahia on March 18 and Huntly Half Marathon on March 19 create a packed schedule during the month which is sure to entice all comers.

The Stadium Motel is a centrally located, modern hospitality complex. The unique tranquility of being situated across the road from a picturesque tree-lined council park and reserve provides a very quiet and peaceful environment for all guests.
